Gino Ballantyne is a Scottish artist who was born in Malta he studied at The Glasgow School of Art between 1983 and 1987. He undertook further studies at Oxford Brookes University and Wimbledon School of Arts, University of the Arts London. He also elected to study conservation at Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum while at the GSofA  and in the late 1980's and early 90's became known for paintings of large nudes and grouped figures. His figurative composition "The City" at the Scottish Exhibition Centre in 1987 won a Scottish Brewers Painting Prize. On his graduation in 1987 he had a one man exhibition at the Dick Institute in Kilmarnock 1987. This was followed by a string of shows with mixed shows in Glasgow, Edinburgh and London including The Sue Rankin Gallery (1987) Clifford Street Fine Art (1988) and the prestigious Mayfair gallery Thos. Agnew & Son Ltd "Young Contemporaries" (1988) who had previously purchased Gino's work from a Sue Rankin Gallery mixed show in (!988)

Gino went on to have his first one man show in London at the Sue Rankin Gallery (1990). Between 1987 and 1993 he had many one man exhibitions, then in early 1993 when preparing for a show in Berlin life created a major bump in the road which saw him inactive for a protracted period of time.

After a long hiatus he slowly returned to making work and the  scope of his work has broadened to include multi installation work, large performance drawings, projection, print, photography, sound composition and art provocations. He has since enjoyed showing in exhibitions in New York, Miami, Paris, Berlin, London, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Switzerland.
